Home Again






Rere awoke to the sound of Pidgys chirping in the backyard.  She got up and looked out her bedroom window into the backyard.

"I almost forgot I was home." She said quietly as she watched Zip ans Zag playing a morning game of tag with Flygon. Wait... Flygon?  "Dad's here." She said excitedly. She ran out of the room down stairs to the kitchen. Norman was there sitting at the table sipping black coffee and reading the Goldenrod Times. "Dad!"  He looked over and smirked.

"Rere, you've grown." He said nonchalantly. Rere nodded and gave him a tight hug.

"I missed you so much." She said happily bounding up beside him. He smiled.  Rere's mother walked into the kitchen.

"Ruby says he's sick..." She told them. Norman frowned.

"What? That boy is such a germaphobe. I don't see how he got sick." Rere said suspectfully. Her mother sighed. Norman seemed disappointed. He set down the paper and turned to Rere.

"Show me how much stronger you've gotten." He said holding out a Pokeball. Rere smirked.

"You're on!" She said running out of the room to get ready.

Later...

Rere had changed into her signature black and dark red tank top with a Pokeball insignia; gray wristbands; jeans; and black and red shoes. She was facing her father in the backyard.

"So you have three Pokemon already?" Norman asked. Rere looked down at the Pokeballs she held in her hand. She nodded reluctantly.

"Yeah...." Was her reply.

"Good, three on three then. Let's go!" He said sending out his Vigoroth.

"Uhh..." She hesitated. Who should she send out? Jolt and Scar were iffy, and Silver couldn't take down three of her father's Pokemon...

"Rere?" Norman asked sternly.

"Uh, right!" She sweat dropped. "Go, Scar!" Rere released her Skarmory.  Scar let out a battle cry and took flight.  He flew straight up and took a nose dive at her and firmly gripped her by the shoulders.  "Scar! No! Put me down!!" Rere protested. Scar took that as encouragement. She continued to protest until Scar finally dove low and dropped her a foot above the ground. "Ow..." She said rubbing her legs. Norman crossed his arms.

"We're not battling, Rere." He told her.

"But..." She began. Norman closed his eyes and shook his head.

"Show me Silver and your other Pokemon." He said. Rere released her Sneasel and Jolteon. Skarmory landed next to his partners and folded his wings. He looked very happy with himself. Rere turned to her dad.

"Silver," Sneasel nodded at her name. "Jolt," Jolteon growled at his. "and Scar." Skarmory let out an ear splitting cry at his name, making Rere cringe. She smirked at her dad and rubbed the back of her head sheepishly and sweat dropped. "Well... here they are."

"Training. Now." he said a little frustrated rubbing his temples.

Later...

Norman watched as Rere commanded her Pokemon in a mock battle.

"Silver Slash! Scar use Screech this time. Jolt... Jolt! Use Thunderbolt!" She commanded.

"She's improved a lot. Her Pokemon are strong. She just gained too many high level ones all at once. That's why those two won't listen to her." Norman thought to himself.

"Scar counter with Wing Attack! Jolt, Hey I'm talkin' to you! Use Bite! Dodge it, Silver!" Rere commanded.  "Nice, Scar! Good hustle, Silver! Good job, Jolt. You can stop now, Jolt. Jolt... Jolteon! Let go of Scar!" Jolteon had a grip on Scarmory's leg. Scar didn't seem bothered by it. Rere sighed. She went up to them. As she got near, Jolt growled at her while still holding on to Scar. "Let go of him." Rere said with her hands on her hips. Jolteon growled more. "Return..." She said returning him to his Pokeball.  "You guys have a good rest, too." She said returning Silver and Scar to their balls.

"Your Pokemon are strong but very unbalanced. Silver likes you and obeys you the best. Scar likes you but does not respect you as a trainer. And Jolt... isn't used to you yet and seems to resent you for some reason...You need to spend time with them to befriend them..." Norman told her. Rere sighed.

"Right..."

Later...

"Hey, Salamence Kid?" Rere called pushing open his door. She saw him sitting on his bed with his back to her. "Feelin' any better?"

"Huh? Oh... Yeah. Hey, take a look at these guys!" He said leaning out of the way, revealing Coco wearing an ascot, Ruru wearing a scarf tied in a bow, and Nana wearing a bandana neck tie.

"You make those?" Rere asked smiling a little.

"Yes! Aren't they just gorgeous? They're for contests!" Ruby said with his eyes aglitter.  Rere sweat dropped.

"Wait...? Contests?" She said realizing what he meant. "Those silly shows where people dress up their Pokemon?"

"They are not silly!" Ruby said crossing his arms. Rere raised a brow.

"Whatever. Hey, do you have some Jelly Beans, 'cuz I need some for my 'mons." Rere said trying to change the subject. Ruby laughed.

"Oh, please! No one uses Jelly Beans anymore!" Ruby said shaking his head at her. Rere look at him skeptically. "Now," He said pulling out a odd looking candy case. "everyone uses Pokeblocks!." Rere grabbed the Pokeblock Case from him and examined it.

"There are only five kinds?" Rere asked.

"You only need five! Each Pokemon likes a certain flavor. All the co-coordinators are using them!" He said waving her off.

"Can I have this?" She asked popping out a red block and sniffing it.

"I guess so, I can always get another at the Contest Hall." Ruby said shrugging.

"Contest?" Norman said leaning on the door frame, surprising them. "Ruby... you're a little young to be doing contests..."

"But I've already won a lot of contests!" Ruby protested.

"..." Norman sighed. "I don't want you to do any more..."

"But!" Ruby yelled sounding heart broken. Norman closed his eyes and shook his head. Ruby turned away and crossed his arms.

"It's time we leave, Rere." Norman said disappearing down the hall.

"Hey," Rere said putting a hand on his shoulder.

"What?!" Ruby yelled his eyes beginning to fill with tears.

"...Thanks for this... I...I'll see you later..." She said not exactly knowing what to say. She left the room.

"We'll show them." He said to his Pokemon.

Later, At A Dock In Kanto...

Rere with Sneasel on her shoulder and Norman were on the deck of the ship at the railing.

"This is Kanto. Are you ready for a new Adventure?" Norman asked grinning. Rere smirked.

"Totally."
